You do not necessarily need a large bedroom to build a nursery—some couples may even utilize an oversized closet for the space. While you might not have much square footage to work with, you can still design a functional nursery in a smaller room. Use our tips below to create a cozy and inviting space.
Remove Closet Doors
If the room has a closet, remove the doors to make the bedroom appear larger than it really is. With this storage space open, you will be able to fit more objects and shelving inside. Many new moms utilize this space for a dainty dresser or diaper changing station.
Add an Accent Wall
When working with a smaller space, you must use specific design elements that deceive your eyes into thinking the room is bigger. Wallpaper has been making a comeback and would be the perfect element to add to a mundane, tinier room. Add wallpaper to a single wall to brighten the space and add personality.
Exchange the Flooring
Consider changing the flooring in the bedroom to something that requires less maintenance and offers comfort. There are plenty of benefits to installing carpet—the material is plush, safe, and quiet. If you’re on a budget, carpet is a more inexpensive option than hardwood.
Keep Things Simple
It can be easy to get carried away when designing a nursery. However, if the room is smaller, do not do this, or the space will look busy and cramped. Stick to a minimal color scheme and consider choosing simplistic décor that doesn’t overcrowd the room.
