6 Ways To Enjoy The Holidays On A Budget

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Isn’t it? For me it sure is. I love Christmas time. All the festive holiday lights, yummy food, fun events, kids being out of school (this one is bittersweet actually). But we know on the flip side Christmas time can also be the most stressful time of the year. Let’s talk about all the shopping for gifts, the trendy tree decorating, the many events to attend, the overspending that can happen and the list continues.

Although things can get pretty expensive this time of year, holiday debt doesn’t have to be your gift this Christmas. You can enjoy the holidays on a budget. Yes I said it – ON A BUDGET y’all! Let me show you how to have a Merry little Christmas and wrack up those memories with your family that won’t break the bank. Here are 6 ways to enjoy the holidays on a budget.

Enjoy Festive Holiday Light Displays

Gather up the crew and let’s get rolling to see all of the lights! Whether it’s your neighborhood or your dream neighborhood, you are guaranteed to see some beautiful Christmas lights and decorations. This is one of my favorite free outings and it is so memorable especially for the kiddos.

Attend Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration

This is a beautiful way to get your family in the Christmas spirit plus you can invite some friends for a wonderful fun and free night out. There’s usually a variety of after event activities: pictures with Santa, face paintings, hot chocolate and gourmet drinks and more. Be sure to check out your local community for all the happenings in and around your area and sleigh into the fun.

Cookies are an all year favorite treat for my family. How about you? You can tell your friends and family to throw on their Christmas sweater and BTO (bring their own) prepared cookie dough for a festive family fun night in the kitchen. Be sure as the host to supply the sprinkles, icing, candies and any specific favorites. Here’s an easy recipe to whip up for Christmas with your children.

Throw a Candy Cane Scavenger Hunt

This is similar to an easter egg hunt but with candy canes. Hide those candy canes all over the house and in your backyard (If the weather permits) or wherever you choose and let the candy cane fun begin. All the excitement of this extremely fun family activity will be memorable for many years to come.

Volunteer In Your Community

There are so many opportunities to spread the holiday cheer without spending a cent. The gift of giving your time is more than enough. You can also make this a family volunteering event. Your children will appreciate the joy of giving and may carry this on as a tradition in their family.

Have A Holiday Movie Night At Home

This is a free Christmas activity that is fun for all ages. Give each family member the opportunity to choose a movie that the entire family will watch together on a Friday or Saturday night. You can add some popcorn, s’mores, hot chocolate, cookies, candy canes and don’t forget the blankets to cozy up to a nice night with the family.

These are just a few inexpensive ways to enjoy the holidays on a budget. No matter the activity you choose to do with your family this Christmas, I hope you enjoy making those merry memories and remember the reason for the season!

Are there any suggestions you would like to add on inexpensive ways to enjoy the holidays? Please share them in the comments below.
