Summer is just around the corner and that means new travel adventures for all! My daughter gets out of school before Memorial Day which means she goes back very early. August 2nd to be exact this year. Yup, you read that right August 2nd! So for us, we have to start our summer travel immediately! Summer is that time of year where everyone is traveling. Whether you are traveling on a family vacation, baecation or a girls trip, here are a few summer travel tips for families to keep in mind as you plan those summer vacations.
Pack Your Patience
Summer is one of the busiest times to travel so be prepared for longer than normal wait times at airports, train stations and rental car locations. Try to be flexible with your itinerary to account for any delays or long wait times. With a lot of businesses being understaffed, be sure to be patient and kind as you travel about this summer season.
Plan in Advance
While summer can bring on last minute spontaneous trips, when possible plan your summer vacations in advance. When you plan in advance not only can you catch some great deals but it gives you time to make sure you will have all the necessary items for your trip especially if you are having to order things online. Keep in mind lots of people are also traveling during this time so places like theme parks and amusement parks will be extra packed. So planning out your day can save you some stress lol. Be sure to include your family in the planning if they wish, so that everyone gets a chance to do something they enjoy on your trip.
Stay Hydrated and Beat the Heat
Summer travel most often means dealing with really hot temperatures. So it is very important to stay hydrated. Whether you are dealing with dry southwest heat or humid east coast heat, be sure to carry water bottles for everyone during your trip. Even if you will be spending time in the water, be sure to drink lots of water. Seek shade whenever possible and try to schedule outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day.
Safety First
Prioritize safety during your summer travels. Remind your children of the dangers of talking to strangers. When in crowded areas be sure to establish a meeting point should the group get separated and make note of the exits. When around water practice water safety and ensure that everyone has the appropriate safety gear. It is very important that things such as life jackets fit accurately.
Capture The Memories
Summer travel is all about creating new memories so be sure to capture lots of photos and videos of those moments. While the kids are on summer break a good way to keep them educationally engaged is to have them document their experiences. Have them pick out a cool journal that speaks to them and have them journal about their travels. Polaroid cameras are making a comeback. Have you seen them lately? They are so cute! If it’s in the budget, get your kids a polaroid camera and have them capture their own photos.
You are now ready to embark on those new summer adventures with your family. Remember to pack your patience, plan ahead and enjoy creating new memories with your family that will last a lifetime.
