“Grab them by the pussy”! Isn’t that what the President of the United States said? So, if that’s what your Commander in Chief feels and thinks about women, why wouldn’t the state government believe they have every right to control what women do with their bodies?

These are the times ladies.

Now, this article is going to take you through some emotions. I apologize for my passion but this is something I am very serious about! Some of you will agree wholeheartedly with what I am saying, some of you will disagree with passion. Isn’t that the beauty of this country? Or is it?

Oh Alabama…

Ahh, the great state of Alabama. Home of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and George Wallace. A state known for its deep-rooted racism and prejudices. I liken its stance on abortion to the “war on drugs”, its sole purpose is to attack minorities (women and people of color) and the impoverished.
With the new bill, an abortion is a class A felony which carries a sentence of no less than 10 years and no more than 99 years in prison. SAY WHAT?!?!?! It gets “better”, an “attempted” violation is a class C felony, you know attempted so if SWAT burst in mid-procedure and stops it, and you are found guilty you could be sentenced to no less than 1 year and 1 day and no more than 10 years in prison.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey

Oh sweet (lies you aren’t sweet with your “Sanctity of Life” bill) Governor Kay Ivey, you haven’t had functioning reproductive organs in years, how dare you sign into law a bill criminalizing a woman’s right to choose. Look, I’ll be transparent I am not a believer that women should be using abortion as a form of birth control but I also realize that life happens when we least expect it.

1 in 4 women are victims of sexual assault

As a victim of assault, I thank the Lord every day that my attack was “mild” and didn’t result in a baby because if it had, I would have had an express one-way ticket to an abortion clinic and I make ZERO apologies about it. Christian and all. Should I be forced to try and love a child conceived out of the most deplorable time in my life? I think NOT!

Children who are molested, women who are raped should not be forced to carry a baby to term, period. Agree, disagree I don’t care; it’s not right. What this bill will do is incarcerate women who are simply making the choice that is best for THEIR life, if you don’t want an abortion…. DONT HAVE ONE! The ironic thing about these decisions is that there isn’t a “Baby Security Act” bill to go along with it.

Baby Security Act…

What would the “Baby Security Act” do you ask? Well, it will ensure that if a mother is mentally unstable, it will provide counseling for her to get on the right track. If the young lady is a minor, it will provide her living wages and counseling to help her adequately take care of her child. Each child would have health and dental insurance paid for by the state. Each mother would be given up to 24 weeks of fully paid maternity leave. Oh, that sounds like too much? WELL STAY THE HELL OUT OF OUR UTERUSES THEN!

Moving on….

North Carolina…

Good ole North Carolina. Now, I know Charlotte is the new black metropolis and we shouldn’t be hard on them. If that’s the case, I implore you to contact your congresspeople and ensure that the modifications to the consent law (SB 553) is approved. Currently, in North Carolina, it is NOT considered rape if a woman gives her consent initially but then revokes it mid-act. YOU READ THAT RIGHT. If you start to have sex and then decide this isn’t what you want and the man or woman continues, that is NOT considered rape under current NC law. I swear I can’t make this stuff up.

Now, this isn’t new, let me be clear. This has been the case since the 70s (State vs. Way) and unfortunately, many victims have not seen justice due to this loophole. North Carolina, I implore to you contact your congresspeople and ensure that this modification to the bill is enacted.

Silence is compliance…

Women, it’s time for us to stand up for OUR rights. I don’t classify myself as a feminist because I believe feminism is geared towards the advancement of white women, not women of color; nonetheless, I stand with ALL women in their right to choose what’s best for them. My decision may be totally different but that is the beauty of this country. With an abundance of children in the foster care system, we don’t need to add more just because a group of old men with erectile dysfunction and a woman with a dried-up uterus have nothing else better to do with their time. (I totally just made an assumption there).

That wasn’t kind huh?

You know what else isn’t kind? Forcing a woman to have a child she either doesn’t want or is ill-prepared to take care of. I don’t agree with the death penalty for the same reason I am pro-choice, there are exceptions that need to be considered. Making a blanket law for ALL instances is asinine.

Protest loudly and with vigor, we cannot idly standby.

My children and I have been advocates for a while

Love and Light,
A Pro-Choice Christian Mommi
