It has been a month since the late Nipsey Hussle’s death, and it still has the black community shattered. I personally felt we lost one of our generation’s greatest. In the wake of his death, the media was able to shine some light on all of the great things Hussle preached, and it left many of us, myself included, asking “How?” can we continue his outstanding work, and how can I create a legacy now? Here are just a few ways you can create a legacy now.
Give Back to your Community
Giving back to the community was one of Hussle’s greatest gifts to our people. He was able to invest into the same hood he grew up in and make a difference for his people. Giving back to your community is a powerful way to help create your legacy. Giving back does not have to just be monetary either. Volunteer your time, a skill set or just knowledge to your community. You can volunteer at shelters, at local schools, or after school programs. If you don’t have the money to buy back the block, add value by teaching your community something.
Evoke Change
Start to speak up against injustice in the world. Don’t be silenced. Speak out against any threat to your family, and friends. If you want to build your legacy you will have to be the change we need in this world. Identify the problem, then do whatever is in your power to bring a solution.
Invest in the Youth
Our children are the future. Your legacy begins with you and ends with them. So, do whatever you can to invest in the youth. Again, money isn’t the only investment that is of value. Invest your time and knowledge in our young, in hopes of them continuing the legacy.
Family First
Make your family a priority. Start instilling values into your loved ones, and work from the inside out. Before you can reach the masses you must reach the ones closest to you. And, most importantly, give your family the best version of you, you can. Inspire the ones around you, and begin to build your legacy within your family first.
Be Mindful of the Impact You Have on Others
What are you doing for others around you? What actions make the biggest difference, positively, to the people you come in contact with? Make your presence a present. Whatever good you bring, be mindful of that, and do more of that, and any bad or negative vibes you carry around also be mindful of, and try to eliminate.
Know Yourself
This may be the most important pillar of creating your legacy. Before you can make any serious change you must know yourself. You need to connect with your purpose, and first, discover why God created you. You’ve got to connect with your values and understand what it is your trying to teach before you start preaching. You must understand YOU and once you’ve discovered yourself you will be confident in the words you preach, in the way you move, and in your thoughts.
Create Your Legacy Now
There is no better time than now to begin to create a legacy for you and your family. You don’t need to have money, you don’t need to be the most woke, just be sure to know yourself, understand your purpose and start building with what you have. The time is NOW!
