Let’s rewind to when I first found out I was pregnant. I just moved to Fredericksburg,VA and started working at a new job. Almost 2.5 months later on August 25th, I had the audacity to put my 2 weeks notice in because I was depressed and tired of my job. I remember they asked did I need more money and I politley declined because I was stressed out. Needless to say, they said I had to leave the same day I put my 2 weeks notice in. I knew I would have one more check coming to hold me until I found another job. Not! My husband suggested I take a pregnancy test once I got home because I had been so emotional. I obliged, although I didn’t feel pregnant.
So I took the test and threw my back against the wall and couldn’t believe what I saw. . . POSITIVE. Numerous thoughts flooded my mind. I’m not married yet, I’m only 22, I’m definitely not financially stable (hence I just quit my job the same day). What am I going to do with a baby? I was also 2 hours away from home, so I knew I wouldn’t have much support
Fast forward to April 3rd, 2015- midnight to be exact. I felt this huge gush of water. I asked my husband (then boyfriend) did he see anything? Little did I know that was my water breaking. I called the on-call doctor and he said come in the morning. However, water continued to gush out. So I told my husband to take me to the ER to figure out what it was. Once we got there and they checked my cervix, they confirmed my water broke and I was in active labor. We didn’t have 1 bag nor any labor plans.
I was admitted and at 7:08PM my first little sunshine was born. Audrey Marie F-M. Can I just say I was a bucket of tears because firstly, I delivered a baby vaginally and didn’t know a thing about the pain I had to endure to deliver. Secondly, WOW I am a mother. I’m a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, but Mother phi Mother is a whole ‘notha level I never knew about.
Let’s just say the day I became a mother was like a rebirth of Antoinette. It’s no longer just me. It’s Antoinette with child. It’s now my job to mold a tiny little human in this world, alongside my husband. I rarely read instructions for the latest gadgets, but I needed one with my newborn. However, I was thankful to have my mother and mother in law by my side with my first born. I will forever cherish this beautiful bond I have with my children. Each child and birth story is completely different, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. They have given me a renewed purpose to hustle harder to set them up for generations to come. We are the #FaltzMcQueens!
